Where is the Good Monkey Project being Implemented?
The Good Monkey GLP Project is being implemented in any classroom around the world that is willing to participate. There is no training required to participate in this GLP, just a willing and kind heart. Participants can connect with other participants by joining Google Hangout meetings or by email.
Why is the Good Monkey Project important?
- This project teaches personal, intellectual and emotional growth through interaction with children from other countries and cultures.
- It provides students a concrete experience of how to problem solve a specific social issue.
- It provides students opportunities to collaborate with others within the classroom, as well as outside of the classroom on an international level (depending on where the class chooses to send The Good Monkey Pillowcase).
- It gives students the opportunity to be in charge of their own global learning by connecting with another child outside of their country.
Step by Step Instruction
1. Register your class here.
2. Ask the students: “Did you know that 800 million people around the world go to bed hungry each night? When was the last time
you went to bed hungry? How do you think it feels to go to bed hungry?”
3. Show KidsAroundTheWorld Website to give a background on how other organizations are helping kids around the world.
4. Implement the Good Monkey Lesson Plan to teach kids the value of a dollar and how far it goes when helping a child in
need. This lesson plan is not mandatory. Please feel free to modify as you see fit your classroom. (After the lesson plan,
students will have an idea of the types of items they can buy or bring to class to donate to the Good Monkey Project. Donations
do not have to be monetory, it can be an actual toy or item from the store).
5. Teachers collect the items from the students and put them inside a pillowcase (any pillowcase that will hold the items securely).
I suggest bringing in an old pillowcase because that will do the job, just fine. You may choose to decorate the pillowcases with your class.
6. Donating is super fun! Please see some fun sample videos to show your class on how to collect and donate toys/items needed.
7. Teachers sends home a list of things that students can bring to school for donation. If they already have the item at home, then,
there is no need to buy (for instance, pencils, crayons and notebooks).
8. Take 1 -3 photos of students learning about math (implementing The Good Monkey Lesson Plan) and collecting items to donate
for the project.
9. Then, we are sending the packages to any of the locations below:
